If an unexpected development or crisis strikes your business or organization, is your social media framework in place and ready to handle it?

Do you have structure in place to handle an escalation of a problem across social media channels?

The Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC) found itself in that position last February when legislation that severely impacted public employee union members created a storm of controversy that resulted in tens of thousands of people repeatedly rallying at the State Capitol over a three month period.

A less visible – but equally impressive – crowd of people flocked to social media to share information, express themselves and organize events.

How did WEAC handle this onslaught of activity on Facebook, Twitter and weac.org, and how would you respond under similar circumstances?

Marlena DeutschBill Hurley

Bill Hurley, WEAC’s Senior Editor and Social Media Strategist, and Marlena Deutsch, WEAC’s Public Relations Specialist, will share their experiences and discuss what they and their colleagues learned about  social media and crisis communications during this historic period of rallies and protest.

Social Media Breakfast Madison

The Social Media Breakfast Madison was started in 2009 by Wendy Soucie and Marivic Valencia. We operate with 5-6 managers and try to keep our events free with generous sponsors who provide food, facilities and speakers.

SMBMadison is part of a national organization founded by Bryan Person in August 2007 as an event where social media experts and newbies alike come together to eat, meet, share, and learn. Marketers, PR pros, entrepreneurs, bloggers, podcasters, new-media fanatics, and online social networkers are all welcome to attend.

The breakfast series began in Boston and has now spread to 40 cities throughout the United States and around the world.

Thursday, November 3, 2011

In the spirit of the upcoming holiday season, Paul Castain of the LinkedIn Group "Sales Playbook" suggested having "Canned Sales Meetings". Check it out! http://linkd.in/vWMAQy

We all have thriving networks and this is a great opportunity to use this asset for a good cause. SMBMAD has decided to Our Nov 16th meeting into a "Canned Meeting"! So please bring a non perishable item to the November SMBMAD and tell your network to come and do the same. We will take these donations to a local food pantry and make someones holiday season just a little brighter! Thanks for caring and sharing!
